Wonderful Walter Wong (Right Solution Inc., in Los Angeles) diagnosed the problem and spotted the break in the antenna circuit. There are two connections to the antennas in the three rear windows in the 1999 (and also my 2003) 9-5 wagon. The two antenna-leads connect to conductive metal layers on the inside-top of the two trapezoid-shaped windows at the rear sides of the car. One lead was broken away. I made a temporary(?) fix with a tin-snip-aluminum "flat-spring" which presses the antenna-lead against the conductive metal layer. The radio works fine! Thanks for your help folks!
