Out of Fuel? Posted by JustinHiFi [Email] (#829) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JustinHiFi) on Fri, 28 Feb 2014 06:47:45 In Reply to: Car died on the road last night, Jim M, Fri, 28 Feb 2014 04:21:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Theres a reason I ask. I get one or two cars towed in with it died on me or no start conditions each year that are just out of fuel. With the fuel baffle in the 9-5 that can prop up the level sender, its a good possibility.
If theres a junk aftermarket Chinese IDM on there, I have seen three of those just die on the road. The later (after recall and software update in 2005/2006) versions tend to throw a CEL well prior and also feature not catching on fire. Easy to check if you have s spare.
Fuel pumps tend to die as you describe, just fold the seat bottom forward, pop the fuel pump cover off and turn the key from off to the on position (not crank) and listen for a 1sec prime. If you cant hear the pump kick on, dead fuel pump or pump relay.
