Bad design I guess but we all know about the ball joint at end of our transmission shift cable. I originally did something like this with a softer plastic piece. Then years later finally swapped the whole cable (from a used one). That was like 5 years ago. So now this one became loose. All the interior contents were gone. I could still shift wihtout it flying off as long as very careful going into P. Before I wanted to dig out my center console again or try the auction site $70 fix (which looks nice), I decided to dig through my nuts and bolts bin to see what I had. Found a hard plastic molded wing nut and cut, drilled and sanded it to fit very snug on the peg and once that was done sanded it down enough to snap firmly into the ball joint. So far so good and it is very tight. No loose play at all. See how long it lasts. Trying to post pictures one at a time.
