Door Locks Trying to Engage But No Action

2001 9-5 Wagon 2.3t with the fat key fobs
When I press on the key fobs (or the switch on the center consol next to the automatic transmission selector lever), the door locks would make an audible sound that seems to be trying to engage, but actual locking or unlocking action on any of the four doors. The rear wagon gate lock is working fine when operated from the key fob.
Thanks in advance for any advice on how I can fix it.
