The DIC purchased in 2010 as a spare that was causing problems works fine in the Wife's 2004 Areo with the stock ECU. The DIC, installed Dec 2009, from her car works great in my 2003 Saab Aero where the bad unit was creating miss fires. My Saab has a stage II tune in a used ECM. Note that the bad DIC did not have any issues at low throttle on my car, so the break down voltage of the spark gap is a factor and that suggests that the spark gap may be an issue. Her SAAB is running platinum plugs where the sharp center electrode will have lower break down voltages. Based on that, I will reduce my 0.041" spark gaps.

So the problem is clearly in the 2010 spare DIC that has 2,300 miles. So a genuine SAAB DIC can have some issues, perhaps from living in the trunk. The good news is that the problem seems to not involve any other components in my SAAB.

I have ordered a new DIC and will install it with the objective of finding a problem within the 1 year warranty.
