The tools I have came from an old Blaupunkt and they have a ball on the end of each "tine". I had to push pretty hard and apply pressure with my thumbs pressing the tools toward the outside of the radio when I engaged them. Once the tools "clicked" in place I was able to pull the radio out.
The tool is designed to depress a leaf spring on the side of the radio chassis so that the radio can be retracted from the dash.
