When that happened to me, the alternator was the culprit, although in my case the car also went into limp home mode.
You also should look at the positive battery cable. See the many recent posts about that. Even if you isolate problem to the alternator, if the cable is original to your car, it is pretty likely corroded internally and worth replacing preemptively.
