Subframe Bushing Orientation Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Mon, 8 Dec 2014 19:27:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm having the subframe bushings done tomorrow on our '04 Aero Kombi at an Indie shop. I got a set of Poly (Proparts) bushings but after seeing some comment from Swedecar regarding his experience with Poly vs. OEM, I went with the OEM ones. My question is this: The OEM ones are not symmetric when viewed from the top. They have what appears to be an 'H' pattern in the top of them - molded into the rubber. What orientation should the H go in? Should the H be parallel to the centerline of the car or perpendicular to it? I'm sure voided bushings like this are designed to have a specific orientation based on loads during operation (or in a crash). Has anyone seen this before? I'll check the WIS too. The WIS says: The bush must be mounted with one opening facing forwards and one facing rearwards. So I guess the H must be oriented longitudinally.
Poly bushings have no such void so they obviously react differently. Maybe that's why there are some complaints about engine vibration being more noticeable.
