I have a 2007 9-5 Aero. You must drop the tank to replace the fuel pump. And, there is no fuel filter in front of the right rear wheel; the filter is an integral part of the pump.
Rather than spending a lot of money to replace the pump on a preventive basis do some diagnostic work as follows.
1. Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
2. Check the electrical waveform of the current flow to the pump. It will give you a picture of whether you should replace the pump now or you can wait.
A new fuel pump runs $499 at eEuroparts or $50 for a rebuild kit. The work dropping the as tank is another matter.
