Time for Service Won't reset

My 2003 9-5 ARC with 100k miles has "Time for Service" displayed on SID. I have tried 20 times to reset by holding the clear button for minutes at a time without success.
As soon as I push the clear button, the message goes away until next time I start the vehicle.
Any ideas how to reset?
