it is the 50 cent parts that can cause big headaches. Exact same thing happened to the guy that bought my 00 9-3 at around 230k. Oil pump o ring. Oil pours out. Amazing they last as long as they do.

Similar death occurs to the o ring at water pump to block although that happens sooner, usually half that mileage. Coolant everywhere when it lets go.

Cheap solution for the Manufacturer means one more headache for the long term owner down the road. Same thing with the plastic radiator bodies they all use nowdays. The idea is to get us back in the showroom every 5 years and plop down money on a new one, or at least a CPO. We keep screwing with their plans...get it fixed and keep going. A good Saab indie would have seen this before.
