Many years ago.
-Vehicle on stands.
-Removed old MC.
-Installed new with brake lines in place but left the pipe nuts loose.
-Packed rags under the MC.
-Filled the reservoir and pumped the petal, fluid leaking out onto rags.
-Tightened the brake line nuts and wiped things down.
-Wheels off, press brake pads away from rotors to push the caliper pistons in, reversing flow to flush any air bubbles at MC to reservoir. This also removes contaminated fluid from the MC end of the system where fluid gets contaminated by reservoir breather vent. While doing this, remove fluid from reservoir as needed to prevent over flow. Then remove all fluid possible, fill with new and pump petal to fill caliper pistons.
- Areas of the MC not stroked by the piston get rust deposits. If piston then goes past these, rust cuts the rubber cup seals and then its damaged. Never pump petal to floor doing brake maintenance. I place a 2x4 behind petal. No issue with a new/rebuilt MC.
I replace fluid at the MC often to remove moisture contaminated fluid. Brake fluid is cheap.
