C/S Anti-lock, ESP, and BRAKE warning lights illuminated. Tech 2 shows two codes present, left rear wheel speed sensor and an internal pressure valve fault in ESP unit.
No continuity on ground wire on rear hub to the connector on the module. Replace crimps where the wheel speed sensor harness comes in to car under drivers rear seat and restore continuity to both wires from pins on the control module connector to the connector for the left rear hub. Fault rectified.
Changed ESP pump/block assembly with used after following WIS diagnostic procedures which were pretty useless. Re-used old control module, pressure sensor fault persists. Swap used control module in, pressure sensor fault rectified. Now have code C0551: unit not programmed. PN on used module same number as module removed from vehicle. Program module w/ Tech 2 and dictate proper brake and suspension package options. Fault code persists and lights continue to be illuminated in instrument cluster.
Found TSB stating the following: "NOTE: MY 2004 Saab 9-5 with engine variant B235L (8th VIN digit "A") SHOULD NOT have the ECM software updated to the latest available release entitled "16 inch brakes replaced by 15 inch brakes" as this will cause a C0551 to set in the ESP system."
Great. Scan software in ECM. Latest update available in TIS2000 is programmed in ECM. Strange fault did not exist before. Swap ECM with one from 2002 9-3 parts car for diagnostic purposes and learn immobilizer. Starts car but same fault present. TIS2000 will not allow the software version to be read from the current ECM due to the conflicting part numbers of the software. No other 9-5 ECU's available for testing.
All values in scan tool read correctly, just can't get rid of the C0551. Tried selecting all other brake and chassis options to no avail.
Any thoughts appreciated at this point. Deeper in time on the job than I will ever get close to getting paid for.
Best,
Chad
