2004 Aero sedan, 122 k. I really like driving this car now with new FSD's, 4 new springs and GS spacers on rear mounted on upper perch. With the ride height back to normal in front and a tad more than normal in rear (springs will eventually sag, so we overcorrected a bit) the car can be aligned within spec again. What a huge difference.
But here comes my question, I traced a rattle that hgas been with me for a couple of years to the passenger side seat back at the latch point. It latches, but there is about 1/4" slop in the mechanisim. There is a gap between the top of the seat back and the parcel shelf. No easy way to take the seat back apart (little black rivets?) to investigate the linkage intergrity in the seat back. and no apparent adjustments for the "U" shaped tab attached to the car body, but I would have to remove the trunk liner to verify that. I rarely use these things and I dont know why they got so sloppy. Searched archives here and have not seen solutions other than to have someone sit in that seat or put a 50 lb. bag of spuds in the seat. I have had someone sit in that seat and, of course the rattle goes away. Seems like the switch at the top is a bit sticky, I sprayed some silicon lube in there with no improvement.
I suspect the mechanisim embedded in the seat back is the culprit, looks like a plastic actuator, latch, linked with a metal rod. Short of applying a strip of insulating material at the top to fill the gap between seat back and parcel shelf or maybe a couple of stick on rubber bumpers, there seems to be no way to access these things for repair or adjustment. Anyone ever find a good solution to this?
Thanks, all!
