One correction.
There is no other heater valve turning on and off coolant to heater core except that heater bypass valve.
In non ACC and modified 9-5 cars, hot coolant is circulated through the heater core at all times. This is the standard on most modern cars.
The heat inside cabin is regulated by use of temperature blend doors.
Even the 1985 and up 9000 used this technology together with the 1982 and up Volvo 700 series.
And that's why some dimwit at GM decided it was a need for that heater bypass valve to maximize the A/C performance. Cadillac Catera and Opel Omega use that valve too.
