Can running of OBD II CAT Monitor cause stalling?

Hi everyone.
Is it possible for the running of the OBD II catalyst monitor to cause a significant engine stumble (but no codes) in the event it cannot run to completion? The stumble periodically happens for a minute or two just once per trip, usually around 10 minutes from a cold start, less time if it is a warm day. What I read typically has the catalytic monitor running during the highway part of the drive cycle, however in this case it doesnât appear to matter if at idle or highway speed for the stumble to happen. The downstream O2 sensor voltage by OBD II plotting scanner holds steady 0.6 at idle but will waver between 0.1-0.8 volts at a steady 45-55 mph so the cat may be on its way out.
2003 9-5 Linear 145,000 miles, original catalytic converter. I cleared a DIC code ( my fault- was using a known problem DIC) just before noticing this problem. The catalyst monitor remains at Incomplete after over a week.
If the root problem is due to a bad cat might I safely disconnect the downstream 02 sensor to avoid the stumble until a chance opens up in a couple weeks to replace the cat? Today with A/C running the stumble was sufficient to stall the car at idle.
Thanks,
tim
