LED HEADLIGHT CONVERSION Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Wed, 27 May 2015 09:07:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a set of Euro H7 bulbed headlights in my 2001 95 Aero. I replaced the H7 quartz lights with some HIDs with remote balasts on the low beam side.
The lighting was good, but they had very serious radio frequency interference [RFI] in the system. Most AM radio stations were buried in add fluctuating noise with the lights on. With a little internet research I found that this was a very normal problem for Chinese aftermarket HID systems.
I kept looking at LED headlights, but most were not very powerful. In the last year or so a new generation of powerful LEDs have come on the market. Many new cars now have LED lights rather than HID.
LED benefits are lower power consumption, no RFI, and VERY long bulb life.
I took the plunge and bought these lights

There are many other options on eBay.
Installed them this weekend and so far I am very happy. Downside is that the cooling fins on the back of the bulb does not allow the plastic cap to be installed. I will solve that with some kind of cover.
These lights do not have any external boxes, but they do have a big heat sink on the back.
I would love to post photos, but I have never figured that out on this site.
