My experience.....after 280K miles Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Sat, 25 Jul 2015 10:03:58 In Reply to: How many miles is too many miles?, amicusterrae, Fri, 24 Jul 2015 07:39:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had a 2000 9-5 Aero (bought new) which I enjoyed for 280K miles. At 280K miles I sold it; the last I heard the new owner had pushed it past 400K miles.
My experience during the first 280K miles was very good. Good scheduled preventive maintenance works.
I wouldn't hesitate buying a 150K 9-5 as long as I was convinced that it had been taken care of. At 150K miles you might see the following over the next 50K-100K miles....fuel pump, catalytic converter, clutch and pressure plate, suspension components, sludge problems should be checked, PCV. Other components may fail; I've only listed the more expensive ones.
Regardless of miles....check the maintenance and accidence history. If the car looks beat up, grungy and poorly maintained you may want to walk away.
