When you turn the key , but don't crank the engine ..the fuel pump should go on for a second or two . It is under therear seat behind the driver .
A 3-4 year old battery is near the end , and a fresh one will probably juice an older fuel pump . The way the positive cable routs to the starter v.s. the fuel system could also make the battery lead a suspect .
Also check the shifter linkage might not be hitting the Neutral Safety Switch just right .
