Back in July on this forum I had posted about an issue with my 2008 9-5 SportCombi suddenly starting to turn on the brake warning light and ABS and TCS lights. "pme" suggested to first check the brake light switch before assuming it was something more involved (e.g., ABS control unit, etc.). I ordered a new brake light switch from eEuroparts to have on hand just in case the original turned out to be failing.
At first I had some trouble actually getting the brake light switch out from the plate a the top of the brake pedal arm, but once I got it out and unplugged from the connector, I used a multimeter to run tests on it and compare to the new brake light switch from eEuro. After numerous tests, the original brake light switch seemed to be functioning correctly so I re-installed it to see if the problem came back. Since reinstalling it, I have had no more issues with the warning lights and everything functions as normal (in both hot weather and recent cooler weather).
So, all I can figure is that there was some bit of crud around the plunger on the switch or mild oxidation on the connector or something and just the process of removing the switch, testing it, and re-installing it cleared up the problem. And I still have the new switch on hand if the problem comes back.
Thanks to "pme" for the tip. A little bit of time to work with and test the switch saved me likely a lot of diagnostic time with my local indy Saab mechanic.
