Fuel pump removal Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Sun, 4 Oct 2015 21:40:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I tried to remove my fuel pump this evening to no avail. I got the fuel lines out. Using a few drops of Kroil in each fitting really helped. I got the electrical connector apart. Again Kroil was really helpful. I could get the pump up and turned, but could not get the "cannister" bottom portion of the pump to come out the hole in the tank.
May other posters have noted that the hard fuel line integral with the pump can be a hindrance. It runs down a portion of the bottom cannister and hinders easy removal. I've heard some posters say they cut the line to facilitate pump removal. That seems drastic.
Any further words of wisdom? I was thinking of doing it in daylight for better sight lines, and using a plastic shoehorn to help guide the fuel pipe and pump body out the hole. It's really fiddly!
It was getting late, I got frustrated and buttoned it all back up to try another day.
At least I got the fuel filter done today. Boy was that a rusty mess to play with.
