Help / help appreciated, please.
Replaced ignition switch on our high mileage '99 SE 2.3lpt w auto transmission today - BUT I managed to break the "locating fixture" that anchors the shift cable to the shifter housing. I could consider the $163 (eEuro price) complete cable - but has anyone ever fixed this by making a brace or bracket to hold the ends of this part of the outer cable housing together?
The part I am focused on is the wide spot in the cable that is clipped into the framework at the front of the shifter and anchors the outer cable so that the shifter can move the inner cable relative to the outer. I had no clue that the outer cable is really two parts held together by this piece of plastic that clips into the frame.
Is cable replacement the only option ? Need to know while I have the console all apart.
Thanks in advance,
Mark in Marine
