Recall my post about a low speed accident with a deer back in January which damaged the left corner of my near perfect 2006 9-5 with 96,000 miles. I am about to switch insurance companies so I have not filed a claim yet, plus I think I can fix this.
Leading edge of hood edge dented and bent down about a quarter of an inch but still closes fine, some ripples in the top sheet metal, left bumper cover flexed so much that paint cracked and or fell off in places, left headlight washer taken out but still connected via the hose, its outer cover cover missing. No damage to A/C condenser or radiator. Radiator mount seems unharmed.
With the warm weather yesterday I was able to pull the bumper cover back a bit, tie off the washer pump, and see the damage. Bumper cover has tears and broken tabs but looks like it can be salvaged and repainted. Most serious damage was to the headlight (halogen), all headlight mounting tabs were broken from the impact and lower broken mount pieces seem to be missing, having fallen out. Lens and bulbs are intact, bulbs work.
A few weeks back I managed to score what I thought was a replacement headlight from a former dealer via the web, but it was only the black bucket portion of the headlamp with the mounts, not assembled with the reflector or lens. Well, OK, it was cheap enough and no problem if I can swap over the lens and reflectors.
So my question: has anyone done this? The black bucket has tangs that clip to the clear lens, so I see a path to replacing it, but have no clue if the reflectors come free or are glued in. Before I tear into this, I'd like to see if the collective has been through this before. If someone with WIS can see if the procedure is listed, it would be appreciated.
I'll eventually need a light silver hood to make things perfect again, but that can wait until spring. Any help appreciated, and thanks in advance.
