I recently switched from a 2007 9-3 (2.0T, not Aero) to a 2006 9-5 aero, I think the main thing I notice is that the 9-3 felt like a much, much smaller car--more nimble, toss-able, sharper.

The 9-5 is unquestionably a more comfortable highway vehicle, and much more spacious in the interior. The 9-3 also just felt like a newer design -- surprise, it is! That said, the interior of the 9-5 is of higher quality with less rattles, squeaks, and hard plastic surfaces. The 9-5 aero has better seats, and the xenon lighting is better than the 9-3's in my experience.

The 9-5 does not have rear passenger side airbags, to my knowledge, while the 9-3 does.

To me, the 9-5 feels like it has a long list of TLC items to keep up with; the 9-3 didn't, though again that was the 4 cylinder, not the 6, so I'm not as sure about that. Maybe that's just a feeling I get, not a true statement.

Personally, I like the exterior of the 9-3 better (esp in the later years). While the 9-5's "Dame Edna" look has grown on me, and is fairly subtle on my silver 9-5, i think the 9-3 has the thoroughly modern look up front.
