Something that jumped at me looking at the link attached regarding the GM drive cycle:
"If the catalyst is marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5 complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst."
That said, while these instructions don't say NOT to use the cruise control, I wouldn't. If the step doesn't want the brakes/shift/clutch used, I'd be skeptical of doing anything other than taking my foot off the pedal. The cruise control is electronically controlled, and I don't know what turning it on/off does in the brains of the car that may impact the test.
Maybe I'm naive, but doesn't some reasonably lengthy period of just plain everyday driving also eventually accomplish this?
