Even though the white coat lab rats say that codes should clear them self when the problem has been repaired properly, they forgot to tell the car about it.
Some codes yes, it will turn off the C/E light but other codes you could drive forever and it wouldn't clear so I have stopped even trying.
It is much quicker to either use the scan tool or disconnecting the battery to clear the codes and then drive the car anew to set readiness.
If the light comes back on, you know the problem is not fixed and if it takes "forever" to set readiness, you also know you have another lingering problem that might have to be dealt with.
