Driver Door Upper AND Lower Weather Strip 1 Saabers Like This Post! Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Thu, 14 Jul 2016 20:06:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Since I spent a few hours on this today, I thought I'd add a few items to an old DIY from 2011. See the link
The driver door weather strip on my daughter's car ('06) came loose at the top rear corner and the window had actually torn through it. I ordered a new part and today put it in. I should have realized the reason that it did this was the lower weather strip in the back edge of the door had fallen out of its channel. Someone had been in before and put adhesive on that lower piece, but there was no adhesive in the track, so I doubt it was ever placed properly. The lower weather strip had been at the bottom of the door in a folded position - for years? At least the person that did it was careful to preserve the moisture / air barrier.
My main addition to the DIY from Matthew is to say that a piece of 1/4 inch oak "lattice" about 20 to 24 inches long is your friend in pushing the weather stripping into its channel - a stand-in for the window glass. Because my old lower molding was so distorted I had to really work to keep it in place (held by half-raised window) while the adhesive that I used had some time to cure. While I had the door open I did the green rollers and I took MI-Roger's tip on some foam by the lock rod to prevent rattles.
It is really rewarding to see that window go up and down at normal speeds again!
