I would not try this "on car". I would hope the rust is not impossible.
For what it's worth, I just removed and replaced the rear Bilstein HD shocks on my '99 SE 2.3t They were installed by me about 60K miles earlier - one was totally dead. That was five Minneosta winters w. salt, but the bolts came out. Since you have FSD's you replaced them at some point, so hopefully an impact wrench (500 lb/ft style, not a wimpy one) and 6-point socket will do it. Worked fine for me.
