Have for years been driving my 2000 9-5 lpt wagon and not that aware of other models and levels of fit-out etc. Always just admired the newer "snazzier" ones and was kind of envious.
Had always heard of the GM "de-contenting" of Saabs as they rode it down but thought not much about it.
However, now have been driving a 2005 version wagon and looking at the many subtle deletions and mods. A little here and a little there in the interest of saving a lot of $$$. Very disappointing.
In my case the changes to the interior alone, consisted of rear speaker removal)wagons), trim in nearly all places, TCS gone(is that a bad thing?), fog lights gone, seat leather cheaper, carpet quality, door-step trims, plastic quality in many surfaces, rear seat air vent trim, and various others.
By the way, amazingly, as I looked around at newer cars the old Saab suddenly became a far better car in the eyes of my wife too, after all these years of the Saabs being poor cousin to her favored Benz.
She finally saw that the comfort and fit-out levels just do not match up unless you are paying much bigger $ than you do with these lovely cars.
We sat in several. The reaction to the plastic in the 2014/15 Passats was definitely the most dramatic. Now we BOTH like the Saabs. Ha!
If only I had known all these years that this was all I needed to do to get her to stop with the looking down her nose at my trusty Saab....
