for a 9 year old Saab.
1) Divide original window sticker by 8 (50% depreciation per 3 years, 9 year old car makes the math easy)
2) add $0.10 per mile below 90,000 or subtract $0.10 per mile above 135,000.
3) adjust for condition. For example, if the mileage is so high that the formula returns a negative number, "runs" is a condition that adjust the value back up to a thousand or two.
Applying it, assuming a $40,000 sticker,
Step 1 gives $5000.
Step 2 adds $2160.
Add for scrupulous maintenance (I assume you have records and/or a diary).
Tires? Brakes? Interior wear? (a 9 year old car could be expected to have some). Exterior dings, scrapes, scratches, headlight cover fog? Again a 9 year old car can be expected to show something. Exhaust service? At 9 years, the first replacement would be on its last legs, IME, and the flex pipe getting ready as well.
After all that, then yeah, check the Saabnet ads for a comparison. I'll bet you come close.
