I tend to support Boris on this. My personal impression about Lucas UCL is that it is generally helpful as a mechanic in a bottle. It lubes the fuel system e.g. fuel pump and enhances combustion allegedly due to the addition of PIB - I recall that being polyisobutylene. This harmonizes the fuel molecules so you have a lessor tendency for pre or latent ignition. This improves fuel economy and it also reduces ring wear. As far as dosage, less is more. I use about 50 -65 % of what they recommend which is next to nothing. I buy in 3.78 litre jugs when on sale and tend to add the dose every other fill up ( although I tank up at the 35-45% remaining level. Too much can confuse your ECU into thinking it has a lean condition. It will add fuel and thus you have customers that experience an increase in fuel economy. I think it tends to work better in older engines or older designs like the saab triumph. I see a 3-8% improvement typically and it drops off again if I don't add any. Quiets the engine down a bit too. Basically pays for itself if you buy the larger container. Useful for lawnmowers and the like as well. Standard equipment in our garage. I use the tall thin bottle I bought years ago as the filling tool. I refill as required. I usually treat 2 cars with one single dose tallboy. Did set a CEL on my X300 when I used too much. Backed off the dosage to about 50% since then without further issues. Like Boris, never had a Saab or other make fuel pump fail using it. That said, I don't think it's so much of a cleaner as a lube.
