I'm definitely on the other end of the use spectrum from you. Most of what we do is shuttle kids and commute. Some of that is highway, but especially when combined with cold winters, it is hard on the car. Fortunately though, we don't rack up the miles so quickly that I need to do the oil that frequently, so the shorter change interval is ok. When it is nice, we try to bike as much as possible, so that helps. Any time you are not driving a car much, you are saving $$.
I have no illusions that our 9-5 is a pristine show car or that it will ever be a collector's item. The good c900 I'm keeping because it is reaching that point, but even so, it is not a mint condition SPG or convertible... it's more a collector's car for us, than a collector's car for someone else! It is probably now worth more than the 9-5 and has fewer miles, but it's still not really worth much (which is fine by me).
I am guilty of doing oil changes on their own, and I am due to do some other work on the 9-5. I guess I look around a little for problems when I do an oil change, but usually I'm squeezing it into my schedule. I try to have my indy periodically take a look at the car also in case there is something I missed... I'm impressed that you can manage 7 of these. 3 is enough for me!
