Xenon / HID Conversion from Halogen Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Fri, 4 Aug 2017 09:28:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We recently purchased a 2003 9-5 that originally came with Halogen lights. The owner had changed the lights to OEM Xenon HID units. Upon inspection of the fuse box it has an orange relay in it. Isn't that a non-sequitur for HID lamp units?? Our '04 with factory HIDs has no such relay since the contollers in the light units do that work.
Has anyone done a conversion from Halogen to HID on an '02 or '03? This car has the leveling system components installed as the lights go through the leveling exercise on startup. Do the HID units just plug right in to the connectors used for the Halogen units or is some rewiring required? What about the Orange relay? Can a "normal" relay be installed in its place or is a whole different fuse box required and a massive amount of rewiring?
My intent once this is sorted is to have the lights set for "Euro 2" mode using a Tech 2 and to install the "modded" relay that keeps the H7s on when the stalk is pulled.
