Beaacon, your Linear was supposed to have the slightly smaller rotors and therefore it also has the correct caliper/bracket to position the pads properly on the rotors. If you installed your smaller rotors on an Aero, then you would have an issue. If you TRIED to install your caliper brackets onto the Aero, they would not clear the larger rotor.
The pads will fit both sized rotors, but only when the appropriate calipers are fitted to match the rotors - caliper brackets for the larger rotors sit further out by an extra 10 mm. I can confirm the pad fitment because I had an extra pair of front Akebono pads sitting several years on the shelf for my old '99 SE (288 mm rotors). Just after we got my daughter's new-to-her 2006 wagon w. sport suspension (308mm rotors) we decided the brand new Monroe pads the PO put on to sell the car were just not cutting it. I put the Akebono's on her car, and she got the quicker bite and consistent brake feel she was used to on the old '99 SE similarly fitted.
As long as your rotors and calipers are matched, you shouldn't have a problem with the pads - unless their combination of dust and performance doesn't suit your preferences.
