problem persists despite great advice from Mark and pme in this thread: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=277478
Symptom: ABS, brake, TCS OFF, and warning triangle lit on dash. Speedometer works, no CEL
Summary: Patient is an '01 Aero, 170k mi. The ABS warning lights above started intermittently but after about 2 weeks became steady and has been steady ever since. At that point I sent off the ABS module for a rebuild. The rebuild did not resolve the issue.
Diagnostic handicap: I dont have the ABS codes. I don't have a tech II, and the car is not convenient to anyone with a tech II. The car is currently in the wilds of coastal NC. It is drivable of course, but "it is where it is" for the near future.
Here is what I did:
1 - I started with the brake light switch (the left switch). It operated the brake lights and the shift interlock. It seemed to function just fine. I pulled it out, cleaned it, put it back. no change.
2 - Cut out junctions J108-J111 (Rear wheel ABS sensor wiring) and spliced in new wire. no change.
3 - Visually inspected the tone ring and the wiring to the wheel speed sensor on both front wheels. All appear fine.
4 - I *replaced* the brake light switch with known good switch (from my 2008 SC). no change.
5 - Seemingly unrelated, I found that the brake master cyl cap was broken, I replaced it with a known good one. no change.
Note that I did not check the tone ring or sensor wiring on the *rear* wheels, yet (I have never noticed the tone ring back there but i am assuming its there).
Are there any concrete diagnostic steps I can perform without a tech II?
Can a mechanic with a "professional grade" code reader read the ABS codes on our SAABs or is a Tech II required?
Is there any consumer grade code reader that can access the ABS codes on a SAAB?
