I thought those lights were "driving lights' which helps one remain within your given lane in low visibility conditions like rain, snow, fog, ice etc. In that respect, they are great. On more than one occasion, I had to rely on them at night in very poor visibility on curvy roads. Combined with low beams, they also help alert oncoming drivers who are sleepy, drunk, arguing with a passenger or distracted by devices that you are approaching. Very important on narrow highways.
