Mysterious coolant leak - Sudden and Major Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 13 Sep 2019 08:05:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I started my '08 Aero yesterday evening and received the "Low Coolant" message in the SID. No big deal I thought, probably just a 1/4-inch low as usual when this alarm displays. Engine was too hot to safely remove the Recovery Bottle Cap last night when I got home so I wanted until this morning to top-off the bottle.
Wow! The bottle was nearly dry! No visible signs of coolant leakage at 6am and no plume of white smoke from the exhaust. Upper radiator hose, thermostat, and heater hoses (removed the coolant by-pass valve) are all only 15 months old.
Water Pump is original. Lower Radiator Hose is original. Radiator is original. 202K miles on the car.
I will be dropping off the car at K&N next week for resolution and repair. I expect it to be one of the three items identified above, although Head Gasket and Coolant Hose to Throttle Body are potential failure items too.
