Experience with repairing shark fin antenna cover

The 'shark fin' cover that covers the roof antenna on my 2004 9-5 has cracked and crumbled away.
I saw plastic dummy shark fins on ebay and decided to try one. The shape at the base did not match the shape of the existing antenna base, no matter how much milling I did with a dremel tool.
I then got a Pilot shark fin 'dummy antenna' (CZ-292CF) from Pepboys. With some milling of the inside with a dremel, I got it to sit almost perfectly flush with the roof. I covered the hole in the antenna with duct tape, I then put a lot of clear GE silicon around the base of the shark fin cover and put it over the antenna. I had to push down on the cover to force the silicon out and make a good seal with the roof. Turned out almost perfect....everything was flush except maybe a extremely small gap at the point of the fin. I let it cure for 24 hrs in my garage and was very solid.
Hope this help someone in a similar situation.
Good luck
