Use Nylon pry tool . . . . Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Sun, 17 Nov 2019 20:23:42 In Reply to: tips to open valve cover, Macy, Fri, 15 Nov 2019 17:19:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
. . . and CAREFULLY tap into the head-block junction. NYLON to avoid scratches. Get a cheap set of these from Harbor Freight or Northern Tool.
If it's stuck this badly, the gasket will be brittle, so go SLOWLY so that you don't put pieces of the gasket into the engine. Main thing is lots of patience to separate and lift evenly so you don't damage the valve cover itself or dump those gasket pieces. I had to do this on one of the four 9-5's I've had the first time I took the valve cover off.
Good luck !
