My daughters each have 2006 wagons (SC's), and one of them had a really challenging issue with corrosion inside of the Left rear brake light / tail light. It was not obvious, and really only showed up after I replaced a dead bulb. I used correct bulbs, as a pair Left and Right, and when I finished, I had symptoms similar to yours: bulb failure message and improper behavior.
My manipulation of the bulb socket and housing must have nudged things just a little. There was corrosion deep in the female connector between the bulb socket and the wiring harness, not the bulb socket where the bulb seats. Painful and careful cleaning of each channel of that female socket and some dielectric grease have kept it working for 2 years now. I probably spent at least 20-30 minutes just cleaning that socket with toothpicks, water, and IPA to get rid of bridging. A check of the Right side tail light showed zero corrosion in that connector.
Hope this helps,
