No check valves in the world can keep exhaust condensation water from blowing back into the pump so it is futile trying to replace them to cure that.
The Volvo 70 model in late 90s have the same problem as do the 2003 9-3 model.
Some hairbrained expert thought it was a good idea to place the pump low on most models.
As a comparison, the Volvo 960 have the pump higher up and close to exhaust manifold and I have never had to replace the pump on those. The pump does not have to blow the water that far and high and the heat from exhaust seems to dry out the moisture perfectly.
What I do now when replacing the pump is to drill a small drain hole at the lowest point of pump so that water have a chance to drain out and when pump starts up, it also blows the water out that drain hole and it seems to be working.
