Apart from a collision, a typical older vehicle should be replaced if it has major rust, engine or transmission damage. Most of the other stuff is what I call routine or normal maintenance. Saabs are still competitive with respect to safety and fuel efficiency. They also now have the cool factor. You may not realize it but they are "hip". Many older Mercedes, BMW and Audi drivers who were never brave enough to own one drool over a Saab. It was the car the coulda, shoulda, woulda bought. Rough roads can result in expensive repairs to the suspension system. During the dog days of summer, I try to cool down the 9-5 after a long flight so the electronic systems don't fry like bacon on a hot griddle. I do this by using gentle throttle during the last few kilometers of the trip. If the temperature is over 30 deg C, I like to open the hood when I get home to minimize heat sink. The DI and TB are arguably the highest at risk components.
