Every State does it differently . Many use the OBD 2 as the readout . The v6 has alot of extra fuel when idling that the catalytic converter just can't deal with . Have you dealt with the J 16 crimp splice that affects the O 2 sensors , which helps the engine trim the fuel . The sad reality is that there is no suitable and effective catalytic converter available for these engines . Make sure you don't have a K & N type of oil saturated air filter ...they just are a problem maker . Check some of my posts on this subject , It's a struggle . I did bring up my 2000 v6 wagon through the ordeal and passed , but it was way too costly even when I did everything myself and bargain shopped everything . Good Luck !
