1 - temp: the gauge going to zero will return. when the temp does not come up to operating temp within 10 mins the ECU will force the temp gauge to zero to "get your eye". Restarting the car will reset the gauge. If the condition repeats "n number" of times it will set the CEL. cause is either thermostat or temp sensor. I replace them both since they are cheap and easy. If you do, go with Motorad or Super Stant thermostat (avoid Whaler).
*EDIT* whoops pme is right-on, the thermostat is a whole different animal on the 6. it changes the "do them both" equation quite a bit.
odd that this is happening in summer, it usually appears (for me) in fall after the first few cool mornings. This timing might suggest that it's indeed the sensor as pme says.
2- DIC: p0300 boils down to "random" misfires. Unfortunate for you since you have two DICs. p0301=cyl 1 misfire, p0302-cyl 2 misfire, etc. So it would be good if your misfires were limited to one bank. maybe those cyl specific codes will appear now after resetting and point to one or the other dic.
DIC failure on the v6 can be costly (as you discovered when it killed your cat years ago). So I guess I wouldn't push my luck too far if I were you.
