Hello!
Former member here that is feeling the itch to find what would be my sixth 9-5. Looking for a manual shift again (all but one of mine were autos), which means I have to consider buying unseen and shipping across country.
Many friends over the years have said avoid used cars from the upper midwest--period, and I've seen how cars less than 20 years old can rust out. I know some of you regulars here live in that area of the country and have long driven Saabs (including 9-5s) in the winter.
When I've asked sellers, I generally get a standard "typical surface corrosion, but no rust through" type of response. I'm thinking I will just hire someone to go look for me, but am curious what you all think. Does the "rust belt" really kill cars, and is a roughly 15-year-old 9-5 from that area already of advanced age? Should I just rule out any candidates from the upper midwest?
Thanks,
Jon
