38 psi is higher than spec for the 9-5. I think standard pressure is supposed to be around 35 psi and our indy tends to adjust pressure to around that but I run it higher, around 38psi. If you are loading the car up, you do need higher pressure.
We tend to get inside edge tire wear even after alignments in the 9-5's. FWD cars often wear the outside edges of the front tires, especially when driven cornering hard - that's what we do to tires on the c900's that don't have the suspension issues of the 9-5. If both edges are worn, it could be low pressure or both of those issues combining.
We had Michelin PSS on a 9-5 and they were awesome but wore out in less than 2 summers. I've really liked the General AS-03 (iirc) tires, and quite affordable... We also had bridgestone symmetric performance tires at one point that were good. I generally prefer symmetric tires, though if noise is a concern, might not be the best choice for some (though we don't notice anything unusual, some people don't like them - I find the water performance is usually good with symmetric directionals, not always the case with non-directional tires)...
