For my 1999 9-5 I used the shims to reduce camber to less than the specs and eliminated the inner tire wear which was more uniform than severe cupping. I had swapped from stock to a Saab sport suspension (shocks/springs) from someone who had upgraded to a truly race type suspension. Understood, the intended effect is to have negative camber for better cornering, but I never drove the car to its' limits to test this. Anyway, that car is asleep with a broken balance chain since 3 years ago. Alignment had also been made for correct toe-in. For another 9-5, a 2003 Linear I maintain for my son's girlfriend, the recent alignment identified a negative 2.3 degrees for the right rear wheel. Even the trusted tech mechanic said "You need shims". And my newest 2008 9-5 Aero was aligned with acceptable negative 1.3 degrees camber each side in the rear. I have the WIS Ride Height chart for all the models with regular and Sport suspension toe-in, camber and caster. Luckily, my tire tech has an up to date alignment rack with proper database but more importantly, superior technical skill and experience .
