We have a 2004 9-5 Arc which thankfully has the sturdy Mitsubishi Turbo. Our dead 1999 9-5 had the Garrett LPT (Light Pressure Turbo) which had to be re-built twice before being donated to someone else's 9-5.
If your manual tranny has not been refilled with the recommended Saab/GM manual transmission fluid, do yourself a favor and do so. Whether just doing a drain/refill/drain/refill did the trick or the fluid is chemically improved, it made a noticeable difference in shifting smoothness. Look up the Saab WIS (Workshop Information System) for DIY instructions or have somebody who knows Saabs to do it for you.
Hopefully no CEL for fuel vapor leaks..as I dread a notorious likelihood of a minute gas tank crack at the base of the vapor leak sensor pedestal (how ironic!) at the top of the tank of our 2004 ARC. Had to fix this on the '99. Had to heat weld this with tank out of car. Not hardly any glue will work.
Keep a spare DIC on hand (Direct Ignition Cassette) in the trunk for the rare event it suddenly quits. It is a quick 4 screw and electrical plug disconnect to swap out/in on top of the engine. DO NOT buy a cheap Chinese knockoff of these units!
I need to do the subframe bushing replacements to restore tight suspension performance. Others have advised not to go for the more rigid polyurethane ones unless you like really tight and perhaps less comfortable ride.
Change oil and filter per recommended 7,500-10,000 mile intervals and keep your great car happy!
Best of Luck!
