Great write-up. I agree taking out the top is easier. I also snap the AC tubes/pipes out of their plastic bracket to allow them to fit a few millimeters closer to the inside of the fender well thus broadening the opening between the fender well and intake manifold to allow the alternator to come out a bit easier. Grinding a few millimeters off of the lip of the intake manifold (about 1.5 inches in length where the alternator slides by it) gives you a slightly larger opening. Easily done. Both of the above makes taking it out the top a fairly easy job. (As previously noted, once you get the alternator out of the cradle, take the bolts out of alternator bracket and remove it and then lift the alternator up and out). Also, it’s now a very good time to replace the rear engine mount with the alternator and bracket off the car as you can now see and access all the engine mount bolts with all that open space and much better view of the mount.
