Very Hot Engine but Normal Temp Reading Posted by mb [Email] (#2713) [Profile/Gallery] (more from mb) on Wed, 5 Jul 2023 17:17:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The engine in my 2005 9-5 Aero gets very hot but the temperature gauge reading never goes above midway. I replaced the coolant temp thermostat and oil temp thermostat less than 100 miles ago with original Saab parts. I also replaced the coolant and the level is where it should be. No leaks. The fans are working.
The engine gets so hot that I cannot touch the plastic oil gap without getting burnt. It's been about 3 hrs and the engine is still too hot to touch. I doubt that the new thermostat is faulty, but I guess it's possible. Why would the engine get so hot and why would the temp reading show normal temperature?
